This And That

Thursday, April 29th, 2010

Whew! The last couple of weeks have been non stop. The good news is I see a light at the end of the tunnel for the first time since last September. I can not tell you what a relief that is!!! The divorce is final as of yesterday. Whew! I did have to travel to Kansas City area for court. Apparently to get a divorce in the state of Missouri, you must appear in front of a judge. Nerve wracking. To top it off they have 10 other hearings lined up the same morning and those people sit there and listen to your hearing. No privacy. Did not love that. Did not like hearing theirs. Glad to be done.

Unfortunately we seem to have hit a bird at some point on the highway. Neither of us remember hitting it during our drive, but the evidence on the front of the truck was undeniable. Lovely. I found a car wash this morning fully automatic so I could just drive through and not have to be faced with that fact of life and wouldn’t you know, some poor schmuck was actually working it doing a prewash by hand before you enter the drive through. He scrubbed the front of my truck down three times before I entered the drive through. That poor man. It’s good and clean now and I hope to not hit the highway again for a long time. I am sincerely tired of sitting.

The plants the princess and I started have been moved outside to containers. They are doing well. We also planted some basil and cilantro which have sprouted. It is odd not having that morning gardening routine, but as I tell her….. for everything we have lost, we have gained so much more. We are scouting locations for the hummingbird feeders that are safe from three dogs and three kids plus friends….. yeah…. don’t hold your breath.

The princess did go to the local book store and selected a ton of reference materials on Oklahoma birds, amphibians, flowers, etc. We hope to start hitting the local parks as well as state parks to get familiar with everything new. It will require snake training for her since there are poisonous ones here. She should have picked one up on spiders too. I’ve killed two while doing laundry this morning. They keep jumping out of laundry piles. I hope there is hazard pay for doing spider filled laundry or I may go on strike.

My goal for the next couple of weeks is to focus on getting my quilting stuff lined out and organized. I think I am ready to focus and have some time and space carved out in May and June to do so. Wish me luck!!

Happy almost weekend!!

Hummingbirds!

Sunday, August 23rd, 2009

My hummingbird is back and he brought friends! Friday afternoon I saw a nice couple having a dinner date at the feeders. So cute. Flirting, eating, even perching right there. By Saturday there was a third one and it was game on. Four eating spots, but only one bird allowed in at at time. They chirp too! We haven’t exactly figured out if these three are males, or male and female or even if it is all fighting and not a bit of mating going on. But it’s been entertaining none the less. They get very cranky at us for eating out there! I have been trying to get pictures and today, thanks to the sports scene continuous mode, I have pictures! What?! You don’t take pictures of hummingbirds while eating a steak on the patio?! Oh well…. we all already know I’m a bit eccentric…. but in a fun way!!! So enjoy!!

Here’s one hiding in the tomato plants watching us….

Speaking of tomato plants. Mine are just huge! I had the princess take a shot of me holding one up. They have exceeded the cage limits and are laying over on top of each other. I’m about 5 foot.

I’ve gotten most of the fallen over stuff out of the garden from the storms. I had the pleasant surprise of the Forellenschluss lettuce reseeding itself.  I didn’t save any of the seed heads when I was pulling it out.  I was simply too frustrated and enjoying a little deconstruction therapy.  I’ll probably be doing more of that this week.

Hope you had a fun weekend filled with simple surprises!
